Short answer: for a slow afternoon in Bangkok, try Piccolo Vicolo in Ratchathewi, Patom Organic Living in Thonglor, Flâneur Tea near Sathon, Chowchercof in Lat Phrao, Sarnies Bangkok on Charoen Krung, or the Authors' Lounge at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok when you want a proper afternoon tea. Our example drinks and cakes run from 125 to 205 baht on the cafés' delivery menus on Wongnai x LINE MAN; the Authors' Lounge autumn afternoon tea, until 30 November 2026, is 1,980 baht per person plus service and tax. Three of the six close by 18:00, so start early.

You know the afternoon. Nothing is due. The phone goes face down on the table. Someone you like sits across from you, and the hardest decision left is whether to order another slice.

Bangkok is good at many things. Slowing down is not always one of them. So the places that let you do it are worth knowing. Every café below has a real price and its opening hours, checked on 19 October 2026.

The cool season is café season

And this year it is running a week late.

In its 2026 cool-season forecast, the Thai Meteorological Department said it expects Thailand to enter the cool season in the third week of October, about a week later than average, with Bangkok lows of 19 to 21°C and less cold than last year, as Bangkok Biz News reported. Softer air makes a long afternoon easier, whether you sit inside or by a garden.

These 6 Bangkok cafés let you stay all afternoon

Sorted by mood, not ranked. Cafés change their hours, so check before you go.

1. Piccolo Vicolo, Ratchathewi: the hidden courtyard. Time Out describes it as a calm café inside GalileOasis, a renovated older building with trees, small shops and art, with seats indoors and out. Wongnai lists it at 535/31 in the GalileOasis project on Soi Rong Rian King Phet, off Phetchaburi Road. It is closed on Tuesdays. Wongnai lists it open from 09:00 on the other days (09:30 on Wednesday) until 16:30; Time Out Bangkok's Thai edition (July 2025) gives 17:00. A hot latte is 130 baht on its official delivery menu on Wongnai x LINE MAN. Time Out's pick is the coconut Americano with the banana cake. Tip: it closes around 16:30 to 17:00, so come straight after lunch.

2. Patom Organic Living, Thonglor: the glasshouse in a garden. Patom says its Thonglor café sits in a lush garden, is built from glass and reclaimed wood, and has won architectural awards for its design. You will find it at 9/2 Soi Phrom Phak, Watthana. Wongnai lists it open Tuesday to Sunday, 09:30 to 18:00. A hot coconut milk coffee is 125 baht (iced 135 baht) on its official delivery menu on Wongnai x LINE MAN. 4. Chowchercof, Lat Phrao: the waterside escape. Chowchercof calls itself a little oasis on Lat Phrao Soi 16: a waterside café about 100 metres from the mouth of the soi, near MRT Lat Phrao. The coconut pandan cake is 185 baht and an iced matcha latte is 129 baht on its official delivery menu on Wongnai x LINE MAN. Tip: Wongnai lists parking and says pets are welcome.

5. Sarnies Bangkok, Charoen Krung: the old boat shop. Sarnies says its Bangkok flagship, open since 2018, is a restored 150-year-old former boat repair shop with rustic brick walls, at 101 to 103 Charoen Krung Soi 44 in Bang Rak. Its own site lists it open every day from 08:00 to 21:30, with coffee roasted at its own roastery from Thai single-origin beans. 6. The Authors' Lounge, Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok: the splurge. Mandarin Oriental describes the lounge as sitting on the ground floor of the original Oriental Hotel, with wicker furniture, hand-painted fabrics and photographs of the writers who have stayed there. A slow afternoon takes a little planning

Not much, though.

  1. Check the closing day. Patom Organic Living and Flâneur Tea list no Monday hours on Wongnai, and Piccolo Vicolo is closed on Tuesdays.
  2. Arrive after the lunch plates clear. We like the hours between 14:00 and 16:00. That is our taste, not a rule.
  3. Order one thing to share and one to linger over. A slice for the table, and a pot or a cup that takes its time.
  4. Save outside treats for home or the park. A café's table is for the café's food and drink.
  5. Dress for the room. The Authors' Lounge asks for elegant attire and proper footwear, and long trousers and closed shoes for men.
  6. Take the train when parking is tight. Wongnai lists no parking at Flâneur Tea, which sits between BTS Saint Louis and Surasak. Sarnies is near BTS Saphan Taksin and Sathorn Pier, according to its own site.

Some of the best slow afternoons happen at home

You do not always have to go out to slow down.

Some days you do not want to go anywhere. You want the kettle on, an hour with no plans, and something small and golden on a plate. This part is about what we make. Ondine bakes madeleines in Bangkok. We are not a café, and we are not on the list above: we deliver.

A madeleine is a small shell-shaped cake with a crisp golden edge and a soft middle. It needs no knife and no fork, and it breaks in half easily, so the last one can be shared. It sits well next to coffee or tea; our guide to madeleines with coffee and tea has pairing ideas.

The Petite 3 (฿290) holds three madeleines, right for two people and a pot of tea. The Signature 5 (฿450) holds five, for a table of friends. Every box comes in an Ondine logo bag with a ribbon and a wish card, so it can also be a slow afternoon you send to someone else.

A note on our own section: Ondine makes madeleines, so we have an obvious interest here. We kept ourselves off the café list and put this section after it. We have no tie to these cafés.

One box turns an ordinary afternoon into a slow one

We bake every morning and deliver across central Bangkok by Grab Express (roughly Bang Sue to Bang Na, and Thon Buri to Bang Kapi), Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Sundays, often the same day. Every box comes in an Ondine logo bag with a ribbon and a wish card.

See the Petite 3 or choose your box. If a batch is gone when you look, you can put your name down for the next one. Looking for more places to go? Our Bangkok bakeries guide covers every kind of craving. And if a madeleine and a cup of tea ever bring someone back to you, read Proust's madeleine.
