Short answer: for a picnic in central Bangkok, try Lumphini Park, Benjakitti Park, Benjasiri Park, Chulalongkorn University's Centenary Park or Rot Fai Park. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, bring a mat, water and something sweet to share, and aim for the cool season, which the Thai Meteorological Department expects to run from around the third week of October 2026 to mid-February 2027.

You know the evening. The air stops pressing on your skin, there is a breeze you had forgotten about, and suddenly you do not want to be indoors. You want a blanket on the grass, a friend beside you, and something small and golden to pass back and forth while the light goes.

This guide is for that evening. Five parks in the middle of the city, what each one is good for, the hours from each park's own page, and a short list of what to pack.

The cool season is the picnic season

Bangkok gets a few months each year when sitting outside feels easy, and they start now. On 14 October 2026 the Thai Meteorological Department said it expects the cool season in upper Thailand to begin around the third week of October 2026, about a week later than usual, and to end around mid-February 2027, as Bangkok Biz News reported.

For Bangkok, the department expects:

  • Mid-October to mid-November: cool on some days, morning mist, and thunderstorms over about 20 to 30% of the area.
  • Mid-November to early February: cool almost everywhere.
  • Coolest stretch: late December 2026 to early February 2027, with Bangkok lows of about 19 to 21°C.

It also said this cool season is likely to be less cold than last year's. So pick your evening, but bring a light layer anyway.

5 picnic spots in central Bangkok

Sorted roughly from the middle of the city outward, not ranked. Every opening time below comes from the park's own page, and parks can change hours, so check before you go.

1. Lumphini Park: the classic. The city calls it Bangkok's first public park, and it reached 100 years in 2025. It sits on Rama IV Road in Pathum Wan, opens every day from 04:30 to 22:00, and entry is free. Cycling is allowed from 10:00 to 15:00. Go for the lawns and the feeling of the whole city taking a breath at the end of the day. Park office: 02 252 7006.

2. Benjakitti Park: the long walk. Benjakitti, on Ratchadaphisek Road in Khlong Toei, opens every day from 04:30 to 22:00. Its page lists a 1.6 km skywalk, a 5.8 km nature walk, duck boats and kayaks, a dog park and toilets. The Green Bridge skywalk links it to Lumphini, so you can walk from one park into the other. Cycling runs from 06:00 to 17:30. Park office: 02 254 1263.

3. Benjasiri Park: the Sukhumvit break. Benjasiri sits on Sukhumvit Road between Soi 22 and Soi 24, and the city lists it open every day from 04:30 to 22:00. It is the easy one when you work or live along Sukhumvit and want grass without a long trip. Park office: 02 262 0810.

4. Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park: the city forest. Built on more than 29 rai for the university's 100th anniversary, the park is designed as an urban forest that also holds rainwater. It opens every day from 05:00 to 22:00 and is free for the public. The university's page lists walkways, ramps, seating, a playground and toilets. From BTS National Stadium, take exit 2 and follow Rama I Road to Chula 100 Pi Road; from MRT Sam Yan, take exit 2 and walk about 8 to 10 minutes. The car park charges 20 baht for the first two hours.

5. Rot Fai Park: the big green day out. Officially Wachirabenchathat Park, on Kamphaeng Phet 3 Road in Chatuchak, it covers 375 rai. It opens every day from 04:30 to 21:00, entry is free, and cycling is allowed through all its opening hours. Bring the friend who wants to ride first and sit later. Park office: 02 537 9221.

All five parks open by 05:00 and stay open until at least 21:00

A Bangkok picnic needs less than you think

Keep it light enough to carry from the train.

  • A mat or a blanket. Thin and quick to fold.
  • Water, more than you think you need.
  • A hat and sunscreen for the early hours, and mosquito repellent for the evening.
  • Something to pour. A flask of tea or coffee turns a snack into a ritual. Our guide to madeleines with coffee and tea has pairing ideas.
  • Something sweet to share. Small things that need no knife and no plate, so they can go hand to hand.
  • Wet wipes and a bag for your rubbish. Leave the grass as you found it.
  • A light layer for the coolest weeks, from late December.

Something small and sweet completes the blanket

The best picnic food can be shared without a word: you open the box, and everyone reaches in. That is why we think small cakes belong on a blanket. Ondine bakes madeleines in Bangkok, so this part is about what we make.

A madeleine is a small shell-shaped cake with a crisp golden edge and a soft middle. It needs no plate and breaks in half easily, so the last one can still be shared. New to them? Start with what a madeleine is.

The Petite 3 (฿290) holds three madeleines, right for two people on one blanket. The Signature 5 (฿450) holds five, for a group where someone always wants the last one. Every box comes in an Ondine logo bag with a ribbon and a wish card, so it can also be a small surprise for the friend who planned the day.

Small habits make a better picnic

  1. Go early or go late. The sun is lower before about 09:00 and after about 16:00. That is our view, not a rule.
  2. Mind the closing time. Rot Fai Park closes at 21:00, an hour before the others on this list, so plan a sunset picnic there with time to pack up.
  3. Check for events before you go. Parks can close areas for big events. For the IMF and World Bank meetings of 12 to 18 October 2026, the Bangkok Post reported that Benjakitti would stay open, with cycling and pedal boats suspended and entry limited to four gates.
  4. Read the signs at the gate. Rules differ from park to park. When in doubt, call the park office numbers above.
  5. Watch the October storms. Until mid-November, the Meteorological Department expects thunderstorms over part of Bangkok, so keep a backup plan or a bigger umbrella.
  6. Plan the sweet part ahead. If you want a box from us, order for a day we deliver, Monday to Saturday.

One box makes the next picnic feel special

We bake every morning and deliver across central Bangkok by Grab Express (roughly Bang Sue to Bang Na, and Thon Buri to Bang Kapi), Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Sundays, often the same day. Every box comes in an Ondine logo bag with a ribbon and a wish card.

See the Petite 3 or choose your box. If a batch is gone when you look, you can put your name down for the next one. Want more places to go? Our Bangkok bakeries guide covers every kind of craving.
